Data Processing

  • Production data is derived from MAFF Crop Statistics (vegetables/fruits), Forestry Agency Special Forest Products Production Statistics (mushrooms), and MAFF Marine Fisheries Production Statistics (seafood, wild + aquaculture combined), ranked by prefectural harvest/catch volume per item.
  • Seafood prefecture rankings reflect landing ports, not catch origins — Yaizu (Shizuoka) for katsuo/tuna, Kesennuma (Miyagi) for katsuo, etc. Deep-sea catches landed at these hubs are attributed to the landing prefecture.
  • Nutrition values are per 100g of edible portion from the MEXT Standard Tables of Food Composition (8th Revision). Actual values vary by cultivar, origin, and preparation method.
  • Retail prices are national averages from the Statistics Bureau Retail Price Survey. Actual prices vary by region, store, and season.
  • Seasonality is independently classified by Minolier based on domestic open-field production periods.
